What inspired you to take over the Life in Calgary Instagram Account?

I love what Life In Calgary is doing for the city, Calgarians and for building Calgary spirit & community. I wanted to do something different and focus on something I am passionate about and that’s Calgary small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Are you from Calgary? If not, where are you from originally and what attracted you to move here?

I am a born and raised Calgarian! Though I have spent extended periods of time away, I always knew that this was home and that this is where I wanted to come back to.

What do you think is the biggest surprise about Calgary for anyone who isn’t familiar with the city?

I often hear about how friendly Calgarians are, how clean the city is, and how safe people feel when they visit.

What do you do in your spare time?

Having two small businesses and two young boys, spare time is tough to come by, but I do try to make it a priority. Including activity in my day is so important – whether it’s going for a run or bike ride along the river or throughout many pathway systems, hiking or attending a class at a local gym, it helps keep my head clear. One of my favourite things to do is to visit local clothing boutiques, shoe stores and coffee shops. These are places that I can connect with friends, fellow small business owners or just plug in and get work done.

Where do you take your friends and family when they visit?

Typical spots such as the Calgary Tower, Saddledome, along the river or Bowness Park for a BBQ. I also like to go explore spots that make Calgary unique like an off path hike in Edworthy Park, float down the river, Nose Hill Park or though Inglewood and 17th Ave for some shopping, food and drinks.

How has this city influenced who you are or your organization?

Calgary is where my roots are. My love for both the city life, the mountains, and living an active lifestyle. The saying ‘the spirit of Calgary’ is so true, and I take pride in being a born and raised Calgarian.

Any tips or advice for Calgary newcomers or those considering a move to Calgary?

I’d just say that you can make the move with ease and comfort knowing that this isn’t just a city, it’s a community of people that help one another in times of need. People that back you up and people that will support to you, who always say “hi” to one another on the pathways.

What is a fun fact about Calgary?

I’m not sure if this a true fact, but I was once told that Calgary is the best place to be an entrepreneur. Having two small businesses, I can absolutely attest to that! The small business community is so supportive of one another and there is a truly a family mind set. Calgarians in general are also extremely supportive of local businesses and genuinely care about their success and well being.
