Carmelo Torres y Su Cumbia Sabanera at Enmax Stage 6, 12:50 p.m.

Torres is a master of the Colombian dance music cumbia. He was born and raised in birthplace of cumbia music, San Jacinto, and taught by the king of cumbia, Andres Landero.

Mipso at Lumina Stage 1, 4:45 p.m.

Though the song above shares a name with a John Mellencamp song, it’s an original composition. However, the chart-topping bluegrass musicians from North Carolina are willing to put their traditional sound to use on the occasional cover of Tom Petty.

Neko Case at Mainstage, 7:05 p.m.

Case tells the Calgary Herald’s Eric Volmers

that her latest album Hell-On “was about the joy of returning to a more story-oriented kind of songwriting, and making room for more sing-songy poetry. It was more to indulge my imagination and to do as I wanted which, frankly, is power. Power to make your own freedom.”

Bahamas at Mainstage, 8:40 p.m.

Bahamas, a.k.a. singer/songwriter Afie Jurvanen, however, got more personal on his latest album Earthtones, a product of the fact that with two kids, he doesn’t have much time to write songs,

as he tells the Toronto Star

. “I’d have 10 minutes to write a song, so if it didn’t feel good I’d just move on to the next idea,” he says. “I think these are some of the most immediate and direct songs I’ve written and the album really captures that.”
