EDMONTON (CityNews) – Alberta has confirmed 452 new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, and 7 deaths.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw took to twitter for the Victoria Day update, saying the province completed 5,085 tests to give a testing positivity rate of 8.8%.

Out of the 452 new cases, 237 were determined to be a variant of concern.

Currently, 13,608 active cases are in Alberta with 569 in hospital, including 161 in ICU.

Calgary has 5,853 active cases with 218 people in hospital, while Edmonton has 3,361 active cases and 198 people in hospital.

So far 2,532,143 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to Albertans, moving the provincial total of Albertans with a first dose to 48.7 per cent and Albertans with a second dose to 7.9 per cent.

With students and teachers set to head back to school, 520 schools are on the province’s COVID outbreak status while 288 schools are on alert.
