This summer, datenight embarked on their inaugural Awards, recognizing the best of the best in our city (and cities across Canada). datenight awards was created to provide our community a thoughtful guide of the best date ideas based on your input and our Committee’s expertise.
Over the summer, date night lovers of all kinds could submit their nominations for their favourite spots around the city in six chosen categories including Dinner Date, Brunch Date, Coffee Date, Cocktail Date, Brewery Date, and Dessert Date.
Can we get a drum roll? Because we have the first official list of winners for the top cocktail spots for dates in Calgary this year. Keep reading to see your picks!
Mister M
For an upscale evening featuring an extensive classic cocktail program, look no further than Mister M. Drawing inspiration from the 1970s L.A. supper clubs, this reservation-only, adults-only venue offers a sophisticated ambiance complete with live music, DJs, and jazz artists. Indulge in a lavish meal and savour classic cocktails while relishing in the refined atmosphere.

Betty Lous Library
Want to feel like you went in a time-machine and transported to the 1920’s? Betty Lous Library is a speakeasy bar that marries the American 1920’s Prohibitions era with Paris’ Lost Generation. Now you might miss it, as you have to walk through a hidden door to find the vintage bar. They also host a few special events like a burlesque show, which may not be a good idea for a first date.

Bridgette Bar
Located in the heart of Calgary’s design district, Bridgette Bar offers a relaxed ambiance, making it an ideal spot for drinks and food. The chef-driven menu promises delightful late-night snacks and meals. Additionally, the bar boasts a distinctive collection of cocktails and mocktails, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Major Tom Bar
Prepare to be captivated by Major Tom Bar’s breathtaking features, including its ceiling-high metal-framed back bar and stunning views of the city from a lofty 40 floors high. The establishment offers two distinct atmospheres: a more intimate and serene vibe in the dining room, and a vibrant, energetic ambiance at the bar. Dive in their creative, contemporary original cocktails, as well as their signature pre-batched martinis, which are meticulously kept on ice for the perfect experience and of coursed served with a stuffed olive.

The Wilde On 27
The Wilde on 27 is where contemporary dining and social cocktailing collide. At least thats what their IG bio says. This place also boasts a great view of the city, and some delicious eats by highly trained Chef Joshua Dyer. Their drink menu might have you curious and wanting to try them them all with one of them being a banana foster drink, and a PB & J drink.

Proof
Proof is very much a IYKYK kind of place in Calgary. As one of Canada’s most decorated cocktail bar you really can’t go wrong. Their staff is immersed in cocktail culture, and love to geek-out with other cocktails enthusiast. You can even take Proof home with you. Having the option for people to purchase a cocktail kit of anytime. This is great if you want to have a date night but also want to stay in.

Shelter Cocktail Bar
For a moody and grungy ambiance, venture to Shelter Cocktail Bar. This unique establishment showcases seasonally rotating cocktail lists, along with a diverse array of spirits and wines. Ideal for small groups and parties, Shelter boasts a striking feature with its impressive installation of 5,000 suspended bulbs, adding to the overall atmosphere.

Untitled YYC
Now you want to take someone to a place and really wow them? Head over to Untitled, the embodiment of sophistication, charm, and style. Yes this is a cocktail bar article, but you must try at least one of their champagnes and sparkling wines from their vast collection. Of course they also have artisanal champagne based cocktails. We highly recommend ordering some oysters to pair with your drinks as well.

Prickett Richard
Hidden in a back alley just off the corner of 17th ave and 6th street SW, you’ll find Prickett Richard. You’ll feel like you’re in a cool invite only basement party. With comfortable seating, and intimate lighting, this would be a great place to have a date.

Magpie
Magpie is a great place for vegan eats, and elevated drinks. Featuring a weekly and monthly cocktails for people to try. It’s a great place to meet up with friends, and catch up, while having small vegan bites that you can either share, or eat on your own.
